I must have flowers….

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!

When I think of this day, I think of flowers…. Like Claude Monet: “I must have flowers, always, and always.” who also said “Color is my daylong obsession, joy, and torment.”

Since started taking photography more seriously, I realise now, I have sort of neglected flowers as objects. There’s so much to shooting flowers though, so much beauty, so much colour and texture there. One must just see beyond the sometimes apparent simplicity of them….

My favourite flowers are the forget-me-nots. They are known to have often been worn by ladies as a sign of faithfulness and enduring love. And love the story behind the origins of its name: In a German legend, God named all the plants when a tiny unnamed one cried out, “Forget-me-not, O Lord!” God replied, “That shall be your name.”  (Source: Wikipedia)  What’s your favourite flower?

Here’s a few photos I’ve taken of flowers. For these shots I’ve been also trying out my new AF-S VR DX NIKKOR 55-200mm f/4-5.6 zoom lens (bought at a second-hand electronicals shop in South Africa) & experimented with my Elements 11 editing software.

Autumn Collage: Silhouettes & Textures

I took my daughter down to the garden one afternoon to get some fresh air and use up energy. While she was exploring the explorable, I was snapping away with my camera… Oh, and I found a four-leaf clover while doing it! 🙂
